Media buyer, team lead, affiliate manager

Updated · 2026-10-20

Roles in affiliate marketing split simply: someone buys traffic, someone builds a team out of those who buy, someone brings partners into the program. We went through 2026 job postings and put together what each of the three roles does and which skills it implies — no legends and no numbers from someone's stories.

This helps both sides: you see where you sit in the pipeline and know what to write in your aff.pro profile.

The 30-second version

  • Media buyer — launches and scales paid campaigns, keeps ROI and ad budgets in check.
  • Team lead — hires, trains and leads media buyers, scales the team by strategy and budgets.
  • Affiliate manager — brings in new webmasters, supports existing ones and watches traffic quality.
  • An aff.pro profile has four roles: "Affiliate · media buyer", "Team · team lead", "Brand · operator", "Affiliate program · network".

1. Media buyer: buys traffic and owns the payback

Duties

  • Launches, tests, optimizes and scales campaigns in paid traffic sources: Facebook Ads, Google Ads, TikTok Ads, native networks.
  • Drives campaigns to a result: switches off losing setups instead of pushing them "on luck".

Skills

  • Metrics and budgets: ROI, ROAS, CPA, CPL, CR, EPC — campaigns are judged by them, and budgets are managed on the same data.
  • Tech: trackers and analytics setup, down to postbacks.

2. Team lead: turning media buyers into a system

In affiliate marketing a team lead is a management role: the result is measured by the whole team's numbers, not their own campaigns.

Duties

  • Hiring, training and onboarding media buyers, motivation and KPI control.
  • Working with adjacent departments: analytics, design, tech, finance.

Skills

  • Scaling strategy: where the team grows and how budgets are split.
  • Team metrics and financial KPIs: ROI, CPA and everything the team is evaluated by.

3. Affiliate manager: the affiliate program side

An affiliate manager sits on the other side of the table: they don't buy traffic, they grow those who do.

Duties

  • Finds and brings in new partners and webmasters, negotiates and closes deals — on CPA, RevShare, Hybrid and other models.
  • Onboards and activates newcomers, retains and develops existing partners.

Skills

  • Traffic quality control and fraud prevention: anti-fraud systems, tracking.
  • Partner performance analysis by metrics — ROI, EPC, eCPA, FTD — and reporting.

4. How to set your role in an aff.pro profile

Role is the first choice in your profile, and it decides who finds you: catalogue search and filters work by role, geo, vertical, source and status.

  • "Affiliate · media buyer" — if you are from section one: you buy and scale traffic yourself.
  • "Team · team lead" — if you are from section two: your result is other people's KPIs.
  • "Affiliate program · network" — if you are from section three: you bring in and support webmasters.
  • "Brand · operator" — if you are not a contractor but the side looking for contractors.

Then the profile narrows down the same things job postings do: geos, verticals, sources, status. Mark what you have actually worked with — these fields are how people search for you, and five honest entries find you faster than "can do everything".

18+. aff.pro is a professional network for the market, not operator advertising. Duties and skills summarize public 2026 job postings (hh.ru, Habr Career and industry boards), cross-checked by three search models; we don't link individual postings — they close.
